Deck FAQ · 1. Hand and drawing
Hand Limit is checked ONLY at the start of your own Turn.
Only at the start of your own Turn: draw from YOUR deck up to your Hand Limit (4-7, set by your Hero Level). Resolve any "at the beginning of your turn" abilities after drawing Start of Turn.
When do I draw cards?
Start of YOUR turn, up to Hand Limit
Yes. At the start of your Turn you may first discard ANY number of cards from your hand, then draw up to the Limit. Example: hand of 3, you discard 2, Level III limit is 5 - you draw 4 fresh cards Start of Turn.
May I discard cards before drawing?
Yes - any number, then draw up
No. There is no drawing before or during Combat - you fight with what you have. The single exception: spending a Positive Morale token at any moment to draw 1 card, discard-and-redraw any number, or reroll a die Hand Limit in Combat.
Can I refill my hand before a Combat?
No - only the Morale token draws mid-turn
The Hand Limit is checked ONLY at the start of your own Turn: if you are over it, discard down to the Limit. In between turns you may temporarily hold more (e.g. from gained cards) Start of Turn.
What if I hold more than the Limit?
Trim only at the start of your turn
Any card you gain (map rewards, purchased Spells, Search results, Specialty cards at Levels IV/VI) goes DIRECTLY TO YOUR HAND unless the effect says otherwise Gaining Cards. The only Specialty that starts inside the deck is Specialty I, shuffled in during setup Level 1.
A gained card - hand or deck?
Straight to HAND unless stated otherwise
Поиск(X): look at the top X cards of the specified deck, take ONE to your hand and discard the others - OR skip looking and take the top card of that deck's Discard Pile instead Search. You never put searched cards into your deck.
How does Поиск(X) work exactly?
Top X: keep 1 to hand, rest to discard - or top of discard
When your deck is empty and you need to draw, shuffle YOUR OWN Discard Pile into a new deck Reshuffling. Shared decks (Ability/Spell/Artifact) reshuffle too when empty, discarding their top card to restart the Discard Pile Discard Piles.
My deck ran out - what now?
Shuffle YOUR discard into a new deck
Deck FAQ · 2. Discard, Remove and card types
Discarded cards come back after a reshuffle; Removed cards leave the game forever.
After use a card goes to your own Discard Pile - every player has their own. Ongoing cards are discarded when their effect is used up or expires (at the start of your next Turn at the latest) After Use.
Where does a used card go?
To YOUR personal discard pile
A discarded card comes back when you reshuffle. A REMOVED card leaves the game completely (back to the box) Remove. Removing is how you thin your deck - Trading Post, Faerie Ring, Witch Hut and similar locations offer it. A leaner deck draws its best cards more often.
Discard vs Remove - the difference?
Discard returns; Remove = out of the game
Only at the moment your deck is empty and you must draw - then the discard becomes the new deck Reshuffling. Nothing is shuffled mid-round on its own, and the discard order is open information.
Is the discard pile ever shuffled?
Only when the deck is empty
Instant - resolves immediately. Activation - played when activating YOUR unit in Combat. Map - cannot be used during Combat. Ongoing - lasts until used up or until you start your next Turn. Permanent - stays in play; only ONE Permanent at a time, playing another discards the first Card Types.
What are the card effect types?
Instant / Activation / Map / Ongoing / Permanent
A Spell's effect scales with Power: add Power by discarding other Spell cards from hand or using Artifact/Ability/Hero Power sources Empowering. You still cast only ONE Spell per Combat Round - but may empower it with any number of cards Casting Limit.
How do I empower a Spell?
Discard extra Spell cards for Power; 1 Spell/combat round
Cards are played only on your own Turn, or during a Combat that involves your MAIN Hero. Secondary Heroes never play cards Card Rules.
When can I play cards at all?
On your turn, or in your Main Hero's combat
